A circular bicycle reflector has a diameter of 5 cm. What is the approximate area of the reflector? Use 3.14 to approximate pi and round your answer to the nearest hundredth. cm2

563blackghost (563blackghost):

To find area of a circle you do....\[A = \pi r^2\]

563blackghost (563blackghost):

how do we find the radius?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we times the area by 3.14 i think

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Not quite...we need to divide the diameter by 2 so....5 divided by 2 is what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2.5

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Correct! So we know the radius...and what we will use for pi which is 3.14 so lets input it into the formula....\[A = 3.14 (2.5^2)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it can be 6.25 or 19.625 one of them

563blackghost (563blackghost):

\[19.625 cm^2\] is Correct!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so my answer is 19.625

563blackghost (563blackghost):

Yup! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks
