Is Allah arabic for God and not really a name.  Name has a definition of "a word or words by which a person or thing is knowm" and what I personally use as the name of God is scriptures in the KJB.  I generally do not abreviate it, in fact I once said I have the longest mantra in the world.

@KenLJW Allah IS Arabic for god. But it has a deeper meaning. Instead of saying "God" in our day to day conversations, even the non-Arabs, they use "Allah". Allah has 99 names, that are known to mankind, he has millions and millions more, but he has chosen to give only 99 to us humans. And these are actual names that you can't name anything else, you can't name you're child, pet or nickname yourself these names.

Thank you, I read the Koran in English and number of years ago and frankly those 99 things don't seem to be there, at least I didn't observe them.  Also I learned inital Islam prohibed wine only then after some time it was expanded to all alcohol, so I do understand there is an expansion to the teaching.

Oh the names are there, "The Most Righteous, The Most Merciful" are one of the first two after Allah. I'm pretty sure the meaning got lost in the translation. Initial Islam prohibited alcohol in certain times in the day, then it prohibited it, before the prayers and including those times of day, then the last revelation completely prohibited. There is great wisdom behind this, imagine if alcohol was right away prohibited, how do you think the people would react?

The US had prohibition from 1919 to 1933, and illegal bootlegging came about with speakeasy in the roaring 20's.  Like today with the prohibition of marijuana which might become legal nation wide instead of just a few states.  Intoxication generally is frown upon Biblcally especially to the exess, in the US 68 % use alcohol while 32 % fully abstain, there's about two million alcoholics in the US.  Like most things there will be those who over indulge and become addicted, I'm addicted to nicotine and have smoked for the last 50 years even after two of my brothers died of lung cancer.  I'm a true believer that God will conquer with spirit and not by power and might as our religions have done in the past, leaving the government to somehow mantain order in our society.

So.. allah means "wing" in Spanish. Which is interesting, does the god Allah have anything to do with that? or is that just a coincidence?
I heard that the Arabic people chose "Allah" to be the prominant name for god because it signified freedom/flight

I think it's "ala" that means wing, but I could be wrong, and most probably that is just a coincidence. The name "Allah" in of itself doensn't really have a special meaning. But, like water is to chemistry, Allah is to Arabic. Water has many unique features as a liquid, correct? It expands when it freezes and has a certain surface tension, etc. The word Allah, also has many unique features that you usually wouldn't find, and I can't explain using the translation, I have to actually use the Arabic word "الله". https://translate.google.com/#ar/en/%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%84%D9%87 ^^If you want to have a closer look at the text.

if it is forbidden to draw Allah (punishable by death I've heard) then how would one know if they are drawing him or not

also dose the same thing applies to drawing faces at all ( animals, people, certain objects)

Drawing takes many forms, a vivid discription in words is in a sense a image.  That's why I use scriptures to describe what I'm supposed to do not what God is to do.  As soon as I say I know what God will do I become God and that's a position I'm not able or willing to take.

The question is not "to whom".  The answer is, to those who obey his commandments.

It is the function of prophets to tell us what God will do.  This does not make them God.  I do not understand your premise that knowing of God makes you God.  It's okay to know of God and rely on His promises.  You can still be human and do that.

I once heard a chiristian minister say according to scriptures we deserve God promise and actually he demanded it.  I was offended and I'm sure God was, such presumptions to me are inexcusabe.  According to the Old Testament, and I really like calling it that, there are over 600 commandments, many to do with temple worship. some dietary, some they call ritural, but the basic ones are found in Exodus 20, there's 14 shown there.  The basic question who in the past has filtered it only accepting some and neglecting others.  The so call Christian today doesn't even know what the word forgive means let alone divine forgiveness.  One of the curses in the Torah is they will eat the flesh of their children, there may have been dire cases in the past where this was literally done but in the last 15 years it's been done economically as the US debt builds falling on children and grandchildren to dig us out.  I you don't attempt to understand and comprehend scriptures you will not come to  basic tenet of man is to be more than biological, animal.  My father drew a curve on a table with his hand and said you have to draw a line somewhere, and just took that in at the time but ultimately due to my past my conclusion was I don't draw lines my lines are already drawn for me.  What is happening in our country today is our culture drawing lines, and as has happen in the past if you extend you boundary's others' will do the same and their boundary may be unacceptable to you.  Remember earth does not mean the planet or a country but fragments of particles, as soil from which Adam was made.  In the propets it speaks of a time when they will worship their god and we will worship God, basically if a person says God is it actually God or god, I generally clarify by sayig my Lords God the Father and Son which may be distinct for each other as in the Temple at the end of Revelations.

hadith is what companions and scholars knew and saw about the Prophet Muhammad(SAW) and the quran is our book of faith and was written by Muhammad (SAW) who got the message from Allah and wrote down each message in the book. @rhettwalker14
