The length of a rectangle is 3 times the width and its area is 108 square units. What is the length of the rectangle? 6 units 12 units 15 units 18 units

OpenStudy (phi):

do you know the formula for the area of a rectangle ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@phi No ._.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Isn't it A = W x L ?

OpenStudy (jack1):

yep, Area = Length x Width (for a rectangle) so A = 108 A = L x W 108 = L x W also L = 3W so 108 = L x W 108 = 3W x W

OpenStudy (jack1):

can you solve from here for W and then L...? @nananea1998

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do I divide 108 with 4 ??? Is that going the right direction ?

OpenStudy (jack1):

not yet... hint: 5a x a = 5a^2... not 6a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Jack1 So it's 18?? That's the answer I came up with

OpenStudy (jack1):

k... ah for L, yep L = 18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Jack1 Thank youu!! ^_^

OpenStudy (jack1):

all good, this was all u hey, props!
