how many real number solutions does the equation have y=3x2-5x-5 one solution, two solutions, no solutions, or infinitely many solutions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well they don't give you answer...so what do you think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no solutions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Sup_Peeps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you sure that it is y=3x2-5x-5 and not 0=3x2-5x-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it says, y = 3x2-5x-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. Is there anything else said about x and y ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I see. So think of it this way. It says you are in real number set. So take x=0 and plug it into the equation. You will get some y, in this case y=-5. Now do the same for other x, for example x=1. Again you will get some other y. In this case y=-7. Now think. How many different x can you take to do this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

two?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and next think, how many different y's will you get by doing that? And it will be your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could I take x=3? Yes of course. It is a real number. Could I take x=100000? Yes, of course, it is a real number. Could I take x=1000000000000000000000000. ? Yes ofcourse, it is a real number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so infinitely many solutions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes
