If someone could help me, I need the steps on how to do this problem. The sun is approximately 1.5*10^11 meters from Earth. It takes 500 seconds to travel from the sun to Earth. What is the velocity (speed) of light? (hint: velocity= distance/time)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@omarbirjas

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

distance over time

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

what is the time that they have given us here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

500 seconds for light to travel to Earth is the only time that they give

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

ok now whats the distance

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.5*10^11 meters from earth

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

now put those into the equation and use a calc, (1.5*10^11)/(500) m/s

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide 1.5*10^11 by 500?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it comes out too 0.003

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

300000000 meters per second.

OpenStudy (omarbirjas):

how did you get 0.003?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i divided 1.5*10^11/500 and it came up with that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Never mind i see what i did wrong. Thank you for helping me.
