Whyy tho?

OpenStudy (lil_drew59):

Because the borders of the Louisiana Purchase weren[?]t defined by France when it sold the land to the U.S., there was immediate conflict with Spain. The U.S. claimed the land west of the Mississippi River all the way to the Rocky Mountains. It also claimed part of Florida that was a Spanish colony at the time. A treaty in 1819 finally settled the border issues.
