What does Cannon mean? I know it has to do with fandoms lol

OpenStudy (exoticinspirit):

idk maybe a specific fandom group name

OpenStudy (farawayfaith):

"In fiction, canon is the material accepted as part of the story in an individual universe of that story. It is often contrasted with, or used as the basis for, works of fan fiction." http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_%28fiction%29

OpenStudy (mercutio_wormsmeat):

Canon means a ship that actually exists in the story (ex: Romeo and Juliet from Romeo and Juliet) Cannon describes the fandom as a whole. Ship is two or more people that you want to be together (ex: I ship Bencutio (Mercutio and Benvolio)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's say you ship destiel (from supernatural) ... If the producers of the show were to make it to where dean and Castiel actually had a relationship... You could then say "destiel is cannon!"
