how can we determine the transistor gain on seing it . without calculation?

OpenStudy (kenljw):

Basically one would measure input then output and then take the ratio to determine gain. This is a basic definition and is used to make calculations as for determining gain, by inspection of a circuit, one would first do analysis of the general circuit and then find a simple approximation to use for gain by inspection. Generally the approximate voltage gain of self-bias network is the ration to the collector resistor to emmiter resistor.
