did i factor correctly?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5x^2-60x=175 5x(12+x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is another one of the same problems you just helped me with^ I just wanna make sure i factored this correctly!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can always test your factoring by putting it back :D hahah.. But ya, 5*12=60 another way to factor is to just take out the x. => x(5x-60) I feel like it's simpler that way because you're just going to wind up with setting them both to zero. So either 5x=0 or x=0. x still equals zero. :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah see i wanted to do that but wasnt sure if it mathmatically correct or whatever. so wait i have to set it equal to 0? or to the 75?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OHH yes you're correct. I over looked the problem. In this case you would set both situations equal to 175.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah okay. thanks!

OpenStudy (er.mohd.amir):

5x2-60x-175=0 5(x2-12x-35)=0 x2-12x-35=0
