okay so the total surface area of all eight cubes equals out to 192 due to the equation below. $$[(2*2)*6]*8=192$$
where as the equation for the larger equals 128 as seen here. $$(4*4)*6=96$$ if you do the math of 96 divided by 192 you would get a simple answer of 1:2 ratio. and that is your answer.
