During the Vietnam war, what options were available to president Johnson and Nixon? What were the advantages and disadvantages?
hmm let me think
sorry for taking so long i was taking a test
What problems did the United States face in the Vietnam War? The United States faced the many casualties that the Vietnam brought. They also had the problems of having the U.S. people disagree heavily over the issue of the Vietnam War. Support for the Vietnam War increased on the Northern Vietnam’s side, but decreased on the Southern Vietnam’s side.
What options were available to President Johnson? To President Nixon? What were the advantages and disadvantages? Johnson had the options to continue the war in Vietnam or back out. Johnson decided to sustain bombing and military forces in Vietnam. The advantages were that Southern Vietnam had not yet been taken over completely by Communist control and the U.S. was doing what it said it would do by helping South Vietnam resist Communist control. The disadvantages were the many casualties of the war and the way of how the nation disagreed sharply over that issue. Nixon had the options of continuing the war or to back out also. Nixon’s plan to back out of the war was peace with honor. In it he had the option of how to back out of the war where he decided to slowly withdraw the soldiers while training the Vietnam people to defend themselves. The advantages were that they were backing out of the war and therefore stopping the many casualties and problems that war causes. The disadvantages are that while they are retreating slowly they are still suffering from casualties and while they spent that much time in the war and training the South Vietnamese they still lost.
Explain the solution President Nixon implemented. President Nixon implemented the solution of peace with honor which called for the U.S. troops slowly withdrawing from South Vietnam while training the Vietnamese to defend themselves. President Nixon probably wanted to back out of the war to stop the U.S. casualties and to stop the dispute over the war in the U.S. By training the Southern Vietnamese he also probably thought that they would then be able to resist Communism by themselves.
Evaluate the effectiveness of Nixon’s solution. Was it successful? How do you determine this? Nixon’s solution did stop the U.S. casualties in Vietnam and bring peace to the U.S., in that way it was successful, but it did not stop the Communist control over South Vietnam. Instead of driving out the Communist control in South Vietnam, which is why the war began, North Vietnam took over its southern neighbor. Part of Nixon’s plan was to train the people of South Vietnam to defend them, but in this way the plan failed. I determine this by what I have learned has happened in history and by what I infer about it.
The New Deal was supposed to deal with getting the U.S. out of the Great Depression. It was a group of agencies that President Franklin Roosevelt set up that was supposed to help bring up the economy. Other solutions may have been to have Americans continue buying and trading because once they stopped for fear that they would lose their money, the businesses died and trade with Europe stopped dramatically. However, government would not have been able to force people to continue buying. Although it would have helped keep us from going into the Great Depression, government would not have been able to put it to effect.
