The comma in the following sentence is used correctly. Which of the comma usage rules applies to the sentence? The day was warm and sunny, so the children played happily. a. Use commas to separate items in a series or list. b. Use commas to set off words of direct address. c. Insert a comma between two independent clauses that are joined with a coordinating conjunction. d. Use commas to separate dependent clauses at the beginning of a sentence. I think it is either c or d...please help!

Im thinking C... not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm... we can eliminate a bc its not a list, and we can also eliminate d because it says "to separate dependent clauses at the BEGINNING of a sentence", and in the sentence there is no comma. so im thinkin c aswell

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is a tough question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*in the beginning there is no comma

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i see that but arn't they dependant clauses?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not sure,i need to refresh my memory on independent and dependant clauses. but im leaning towards C...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i guess I will go with C then, thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem:) good luck
