Could somebody please explain to me how heredity and family medical history could play a role in your own personal health?

Some diseases, like diabetes and heart disease have a genetic component, so looking at your family history can tell you how likely you might be to be predisposed to any hereditary disease. There are a number of cancers that are genetic too. Some of these diseases you can avoid with diet and exercise, others you cannot. Some people have surgery for various cancers if they run in the family. They will have those parts that usually get cancer removed if they have the gene for that type of cancer.

This provided me a lot of clarity on the subject, thank you so much!
