Derrick and Melissa had been practicing for the last two weeks, but she still felt like they weren't ready. Their recital was on the 15th. They had both played in the school's band for the last two years. Melissa was a more experienced player. The days flew by. The worry never disappeared. It was the night before the recital. Melissa paced back and forth. It was her bedtime. She wasn't ready to sleep. All of the notes seemed to drift from her head like steam from a smokestack. She wondered if Derrick was as nervous. She thought about the crowd, and it made things worse.
They had both played in the school's band for the last two years. Melissa was a more experienced player. Without changing the meaning, what is the best way to change these simple sentences into one compound sentence? They had both played in the school's band for the last two years, but Melissa was a more experienced player. They had both played for the last two years in the school's band Melissa was a more experienced player. They had both played in the school's band for the last two years Melissa was a more experienced player. For the last two years, they had both played in the school's band Melissa was a more experienced player.
@Xaze
Well, I can tell you D is wrong. "For the last two years," is the only thing right in that sentence. Which of them do you think?
b or c
B is worded wrong and is a run on sentence. "They had both played for the last two years in the school's band". That doesn't seem right, does it? C is also a run on sentence, but it's worded a bit better than B. There needs to be a comma. That leaves A.
A would be the best possible answer Good job, @SoullessEyes
b
A is correct
@WildHorseLover2002

Sorry for the mess up Wild. I still don't get that, but still. I apologize, since I thought it was A..
