Two planes leave an airport at the same time. Their speeds are 130 mph and 150 mph and the angle between their courses is 36 degrees. How far apart are they after 1.5 hours Can someone check my picture?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

First you need to calculate the distances travelled by the planes in 1.5 hours distance = speed * time then you can draw a triangle and use the cosine rule to find the required distance.

Would I find both distances seperately

OpenStudy (welshfella):

distance for plane 1 = 130*1.5 miles distance for plane 2 = 150*1.5 miles

OpenStudy (welshfella):

you can use the cosine rule to find the distance x
