Any interesting math books to read?? I have to read one and do a report in the next week so something that's not to crazy would be nice :D

OpenStudy (alyssa_xo):

A Beautiful Mind. Only saw the movie, but the book seems to have received a Pulitzer so it can't be that bad. Plus, it's a n interesting story. The mathematician (john nash) died yesterday.

OpenStudy (thatonegirl_):

I'll look into it! Did you enjoy the movie?

OpenStudy (alyssa_xo):

Yeah. here's the most popular scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CemLiSI5ox8 slightly inappropriate

OpenStudy (thatonegirl_):

Omg my mom just asked if it was on netflix.. What a coincidence xD I guess I'll watch the whole thing lol ty :)

OpenStudy (alyssa_xo):

DD might have a better suggestion, stay posted

"How Not To Be Wrong" by Jordan Ellenberg is a fun one that I'm working through right now. A lot of it is sort of about statistics, but you only need basic algebra to understand what's going on. "The Grapes of Math" by Alex Bellos is also pretty good, but a bit more advanced. It has a much wider variety of topics in it. "Logicomix" is a fun graphic novel about Bertrand Russel's attempt to create a logical foundation for mathematics. "Mathematics Through the Eyes of Faith" looks at the connection between mathematics and philosophical and religious concepts like truth, beauty, and infinity, as well as some other, more abstract concepts.

Thanks! Which is/was your favorite? @DDCamp

OpenStudy (thatonegirl_):

@alyssa_xo Where did you get the movie to watch??

OpenStudy (ddcamp):

My favorite was probably "Mathematics Through the Eyes of Faith," but that one also has a fair bit of Christian Theology along with the math. My second favorite is "How Not To Be Wrong."

Sounds good, thanks so much!!
