OpenStudy (calculusxy):

After completing 1/3 of a trip, Tony still had 12 miles to go. How long was the trip?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

I understand that 12 miles is 2/3 of the trip (1 - 1/3). But the explanation of the answer says that 1/3 of the trip is 6 miles, how did they get that?

OpenStudy (sparrow2):

if 2/3 of trip is 12 than 1/3 is 12/2=6 mile what's the problem?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

There's no problem. I thought the way you (@sparrow2 ) did. But I thought that wasn't logical enough. But thanks for clarifying it.

OpenStudy (sparrow2):

here we assume that the speed is the same every time

OpenStudy (sparrow2):

they don't mention this.. think that it's obvious
