Medal + Fan Explain how to write a function rule from the table below. Then write a function rule. x, 2, 4, 6 y, 1, 0, -1 Please help! Thanks! :) This is a bit confusing.

OpenStudy (misty1212):

HI!!

OpenStudy (misty1212):

looks like every time x increases by 2, y decreases by 1 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct.

OpenStudy (misty1212):

that means you know the slope right away right 2, down 1, slope is \(-\frac{1}{2}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, I understand.

OpenStudy (misty1212):

now you can write in point slope form pick any point i pick \((0,4)\) so you can do \[y=-\frac{1}{2}(x-4)\] and solve for \(y\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks, this is making a lot more sense now. :) So that is the function rule?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

that is one answer, probably better if you distribute on the left

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. Thanks so much for your help! I really appreciate it. :)
