A thin 2.37 m long copper rod in a uniform magnetic field has a mass of 41.9 g. When the rod carries a current of 0.268 A directed perpendicular to the magnetic field, it floats in the magnetic field. The acceleration of gravity is 9.81 m/s2 . What is the field strength of the magnetic field? Answer in units of T.
do you have an answer and want a check, or are you looking for a steer?
for an equation, i dont know how to set it up
basic equation for force on a straight wire conductor in a magnetic field: F = B I L but drawing is always helpful the expression "floats in the magnetic field" is interesting as G will want to pull the wire down into the centre of earth can you draw this?
correction: G = g = gravity
i dont think i can draw it ,but i would just have to find F then?
yes, F is what you are after
okay thankyou(:
cool
