Find the greatest common factor: 4x3 – 14x6 A. x B. 2x3 C. 4x3 D. 2x4

OpenStudy (phi):

first, do the "number" part 4 is 2*2 14 is 2*7 what number divides into both 4 and 14 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think the answer is B

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, 2 divides into 4 and into 14 so 2 should be part of the answer. for the x part remember x^3 means x*x*x and x^6 means x*x*x*x*x*x (x times itself 6 times) remember x divides into itself (think of x as "some number") what divides into both x^3 and x^6 hopefully you see x divides into both but also x^2 and also x^3

OpenStudy (phi):

the biggest thing we can divide is 2 (for the number part) and x*x*x for the x part.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thnx!

OpenStudy (phi):

the important part is, do you get the idea?
