What was charles darwin contribution to science and how did he develop it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Darwin's greatest contribution to science was the natural selection, which was extremely controversial at the time because everyone believed god created the world. He developed it through his studies on Galapagos's Islands. he discovered many traits that were similar in the animals, particularly the tortoises and birds which led to further studies on how, which, and why traits are passed on through generations.
