The theory of star formation may never be absolutely proven, but scientists have strong confidence in how stars are born because of repeated observation, infrared, ultraviolet and radio wave testing. The Hubble telescope is a major tool, also. One use of the Hubble is spectroscopy (splitting light into its component colors). This lets scientists deduce many properties of the objects emitting the light, even if they can’t see them clearly. Gravitational lensing (where the gravity of a galaxy cluster between us and the object being studied bends light beams towards us) is also apart of scientist study.
