I dont know where else to ask this, but this said health so heres my question. Yesterday my sister and I were outside and she swung herself around and hit me full blown in my chest with her elbow. My aunt said she hit the sternum but it hurts to breathe, cough, laugh, sit up or strain my body, and when I sneeze it hurts so bad I wanna pass out. Should I seek immediate emergency attention or just rest for a week or two? I don't know how bad a person can hurt their sternum or the damage it can cause so please help.

Oh and I'm having a hard time catching my breath.

I'm not a doctor but I think you should take it easy for a while. If the pain doesn't ease in like a week or so I would go to the doctor and get help. Is there brusing?

OpenStudy (itsyacoolgrl):

No, it's weird, there is no marking or bruising that indicates I got hit there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmm thats so weird.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How many days has it been since its happened?

OpenStudy (itsyacoolgrl):

just yesterday

OpenStudy (itsyacoolgrl):

It's been over 24 hours so I thought a bruise should have shown up already but theres nothing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think it would be very serious, I also don't think you could have cracked anything. It could just become a bruise. I would give it a couple of days and if a bruise doesn't show up, but you still feel the same maybe get it checked out.

OpenStudy (itsyacoolgrl):

ok thank you
