You can use the \left{ and \right. or you can use \cases ``` \(\left\{\begin{matrix} 1 & \text{ if } & \text{ bla bla }\\ 0 & \text{ if } & \text{ alb alb } \end{matrix}\right. \) \(\begin{cases} 1 & \text{ if } & \text{ bla bla }\\ 0 & \text{ if } & \text{ alb alb } \end{cases}\) ``` makes: \(\left\{\begin{matrix} 1 & \text{ if } & \text{ bla bla }\\ 0 & \text{ if } & \text{ alb alb } \end{matrix}\right. \) \(\begin{cases} 1 & \text{ if } & \text{ bla bla }\\ 0 & \text{ if } & \text{ alb alb } \end{cases}\) There are some technical differences in the spacing with cases vs a matrix.
thank you so much @e.mccormick
For me is it not a problem because I am used to it. Like any language, \(\LaTeX\) is as much abot familiarity as anything else.
\[f(x)=\left\{\begin{matrix} |x|& if ~x<1 \\ 13&if ~x\geq1 \end{matrix}\right.\]
