What is the slope of the line that passes through (3, -2) and (-1, -1)? 1/4 -1/4 -4/1 4/1

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

ok....we are given 2 sets of points set 1 is (3,-2)....so we will call x1 = 3 and y1 = -2 set 2 is (-1,-1)...x2 = -1 and y2 = -1 now we use the slope formula: slope = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1) now we sub out info into the formula slope = (-1- (-2) / (-1 - 3) -- pay close attention to your signs slope = (-1 + 2) / -4 slope = 1/-4 or -1/4
