Statistics question... PLEASE HELP! WILL MEDAL AND FAN! In the past, Ben has been able to hit a baseball at the batting cage 20% of the time. He decides to head back to the batting cage. What is the probability that his first hit will be on the eighth pitch? Round your answer to the nearest ten-thousandth.

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

probability that the first seven tries are misses: (0.8)^7 probability that the eighth one hits: 0.2 probability that the first seven tries are misses and the 8th one is a hit: P = (0.8)^7*(0.2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the probability would be 0.04194304? @Vocaloid

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

yes, but do you understand my math? do you understand how I got those numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not exactly.. this whole thing kinda confuses me.

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

what is the probability that Ben misses?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh! Okay, i get it now. There is an 80% chance that he misses. That's where you got the 0.8 from. I understand now.

Thank you, @Vocaloid
