A ball is released from a height of 180 meters. In the 1st second, the ball drops 5 meters, in the 2nd second 15 meters, in the 3rd second 25 meters, and so on. How much time will the ball take to hit the ground?

@ganeshie8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 seconds 5 seconds 6 seconds 7 seconds

OpenStudy (welshfella):

here is the series 5,15,25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it is going up by 10 per second

OpenStudy (welshfella):

each term is obtained form the last by adding 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but it would take more then 7 seconds to hit the ground...

OpenStudy (welshfella):

so if you keep going up the series adding as you go along until you get to 180 you'll get your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh, its 6 I get it thanks

OpenStudy (welshfella):

75 in in 4 seconds 120 in 5 seconds 175 in 6 seconds so ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5+15+25+35+45+55=180

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yes you are right i miscalculated somewhere

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its okay I did same thing last time lol

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yes - shows we are human anyway!
