Hello does anyone know whether people ever debated about whether Sherlock Holmes is real I need any source about anyone in any website debating about whether Sherlock Holmes was real or not , I honestly couldn't find any and if I don't I might have to redo my whole project TAT

sherlock holmes was real he was based of a dude named Dr Joseph Bell, a renown forensic scientist at Edinburgh University whom Conan-Doyle(author) studied under.

yeah well I thought he was just a fictional character that had similiar characteristics with Joseph Bill like when they can both pick a stranger and scrutinize them to make a diagnosis. HOWEVER, I want to explain this topic in a way that people once thought of it as a hoax, do you get what im sayin?

To be completely honest ive never read the book Sherlock Holmes. So i couldn't be any help. Though i have friends who have so i know a little . But from my point of veiw i would hope that it was a hoax. i agree with ypu i think the character was based off of Joseph Bell not literally a story about him and his adventures.

Arthur Conan Doyle (The author) graduated from the university (Edinburgh University) the doctor teached at in 1881. Arthur struggled to make a living as a doctor so he turned to writing. He tried writing a detective story. He wanted to create a new type of detective for his book. In that time of desperation he thought of his teacher Dr. Joseph Bell. The surgeon had a talent. Just like Sherlock Holmes Dr. Joseph Bell could know something about someone without knowing them.
