Medal And Fan ! Help please just a couple questions ill be so grateful ! #1 How does biomass in a community change as succession proceeds? Select one: a. Increases b. Decreases c. Fluctuates
#2 Which of the following is an example of primary succession? Select one: a. Wetland re-growth after a severe storm b. Forest re-growth after an ice storm c. Plant development on a layer of rock deposits d. An abandoned farm becoming a meadow
#3 Which of the following is true of ecological succession? Select one: a. Pioneer organisms move into to new communities first b. Primary productivity decreases as succession proceeds c. Secondary succession takes place within new communities with no previous soil d. All of the above are true
How would soil fertility likely change during the early years of primary succession? Select one: a. Gradually increase b. Gradually decrease c. Rapidly increase then fall sharply
#5 Which of the following best explains the natural cause of a decrease in biomass as succession peaks in a climax community? Select one: a. Once a climax community is reached, there are no nutrients left in the ecosystem to support the growth of plants. b. The canopy of forests prevents sufficient light from reaching the forest floor, thereby limiting primary productivity. c. Humans usually cut down old growth forests. d. The presence of large animals such as elk or wolves prevents the development of young animals.
#6 If a rocky island appeared out of the water from volcanic activity, what type of organism would most likely live there first? Select one: a. Pioneer trees b. Lichens and moss c. Fruit-bearing vines d. Tall shrubs
i dont wanna give direct answers but ill try to explain, primary succession is the colonization of new plants on a previously uninhabitable area. an example could be algae growing on cooled volcanic rock. secondary succession is when most of the area is wiped out but there is still enough nutrients for the area to regrow life. example could be after a forest fire and the forest slowly regrowing. this should help with 1-4 5, my choice would be B because after those tall trees have grown not as much sunlight can reach the floor so the plants on the bottom wouldn't receive as much nutrients you can probably guess 6...
