A sound wave passes through three identical containers, each filled with one of three substances. In which one will sound travel fastest? A. container of helium B. container of alcohol C. container of solid iron D. All three will pass sound at the same speed. **Thank you!! :D

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

I'm pondering...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okie:)

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

experimentally, speaking, I say solid Iron

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, so choice C? is it because it's solid as opposed to gas/liquid?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

therefore it is not as dispersed? allowing faster sound movement?

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

from my table, I read: iron---> v=5,000 m/sec alcohol---> v=1,220 m/sec helium, I think is like hydrogen---v=1,269 m/sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh okay! so iron it is!! :) thank you!:D

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

thanks! :)
