Unfortunately, both of the Stockmann brothers see themselves as champions of right. But one of the major ironies in the play is that they are BOTH undermining the welfare of the people. Because each has such an extreme stance on the problem (neither is willing to compromise), neither is really seeking a solution to a serious problem.
