Darry is a good guardian because he could have gone to college and Ponyboy and Sodapop could have gone to a boys home. Instead, he gets a job to take care of them and pressures Ponyboy to get good grades so when Ponyboy is older he will have a better life than the other greasers in their neighborhood.
