Japan’s many treaties meant that Western countries helped it fight wars. Japan’s powerful military developed even while the country remained isolationist. Japan’s samurai became formidable warriors who could not be defeated. Japan’s industrialization enabled it to build modern warships and weaponry. These are the choices.
