i would say most of their rights were nullified... Stalin was paranoid and wanted to control an entire country. i wouldn't consider the people free at all. there were people from all classes who opposed Stalin's programs and authority... anyone who opposed him would most likely be executed or sent to prison camps in Siberia. hope i helped some :)
