what do you need like a point i.e. (x,y)?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Try substituting each point's (x,y) coordinates in the equation. If both sides are equal then the point is on the line (or the line passes through the point). For y=x+2, (0,1) does not lie on the line because y=1 x+2=2, and the two sides are clearly not equal. However, (5,7) lies on the line, because y=7, and x+2=5+2=7, so the equation is satisfied.
