Is the sample representative of the population? population: all football fans sample: people in randomly selected seats at one football game A. representative B. not representative
i think a
not quite. this one is a bit hard to explain, but I'll try my best. a representative sample should have characteristics that reflect the ENTIRE population if we only take people from ONE football game, our sample does not represent ALL football fans, for a number of reasons. For example, there are football fans all across the world, but since everyone in the sample comes from the same game, there might be a lot of characteristics of the sample population that aren't shared by the whole population in order to make a representative sample, we would probably want to randomly select football fans from a LOT of different places
Hm, maybe I can explain with another example: when we elect a president, we can't just pick voters from one state, that wouldn't be representative of everyone in the country.
