The graph of the equation y=-2x+5 will intersect the y-axis when y equals what value?

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

do you mean y = -2x - 5 as your equation? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i ment y=-2x+5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An axis is intersected when the other parameter is zero.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think of these as "Y" dont we begin "5"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so ur line starts at +5

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

oh okay :) So we have the equation y = -2x + 5 To find when it will intersect the y-axis, it meant when will it cut the y-axis? Note the slope-intercept form: y = mx + b where m = slope and b = y-intercept :) So what will the "b" be in your equation y = -2x + 5 ?

@GrinningShadow sometimes it's better to explain the method so they can learn a method instead of just getting the answer
