The legislature of Puerto Rico consists of a 27-member Senate and a 51-member House of Representatives. How many ways are there to choose a group of five members from the Puerto Rican legislature?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How would you begin this excercise?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have tried doing the 78! where 78 x 77 x 76 x 75 x 74 = 2,533,330,800 it is incorrect

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why would it be incorrect? If it doesn't matter if it's one of the Senate or one of the House, it should be correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it says it is incorrect. that is the most logical way i find to answer the problem. Do you have any other ways? i am stuck on this one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me break it down. first we add 27 + 51 = 78 78 members in total then is asks me how many ways are there to choose a group of five members from the PR Legislature so I calculate 78! but it is wrong!!! what am I missing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

78!/5!(73!) the answer is 21,111,090

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm sorry I couldn't help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is ok. I get stuck and panic.
