Given the box plot, will the mean or the median provide a better description of the center?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. The mean, because the data distribution is symmetrical b. The median, because the data distribution is symmetrical c. The mean, because the data distribution is skewed to the right d. The median, because the data distribution is skewed to the right <-- I think it's D

OpenStudy (kobeni-chan):

I think you're right :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didn't think it was A or B because the data distribution is asymmetrical, not symmetrical. And outliers affect the mean, not really the median. So the mean wouldn't be a good description of the center. (Just wanted to explain why I think it's D) @kobeni-chan Thank you!

OpenStudy (kobeni-chan):

Perfect explanation! c: and no problem
