can someone please help me? i dont know what an asymptote is.. here is the question: identify the asymptotes of the graph of each function. then graph the function. y=1/x+2
Quick confirmation, is it\[y=\frac{1}{x}-2\]or\[y=\frac{1}{x-2}\]
Whoops, meant +2 not -2

Well an asymptote is basically where an x or y cannot be. The curve of the line will get infinitely close to the asymptote, but never touch it. It's usually a fraction since you cannot divide by 0. In this case, you can't have -2 as the asymptote for x since -2+2 = 0 and you can't have 0 as the denominator. I suggest graphing this out as it will give you a visual representation of what I'm talking about.
okay, thank you so much! that really helped me alot :D
No problem :)
