What roles do mitosis and meiosis play in reproduction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what type of reproduction Cellular or Sexual?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Meiosis, or reductive division, produces haploid gametes (egg in those with ovaries, sperm in those with testes). When an egg and sperm combine during fertilization, they form a diploid cell called a zygote. This zygote then undergoes cleavage, cell division without growth. Mitosis is important because it leads to growth in multicellular organisms. In a developing embryo, mitosis is occurring very rapidly.
