A man blows air into a whistle like the one shown to call his dog when the dog strays. Which best describes how the sound from the whistle gets the attention of the dog?

a. The air causes the metal casing of the whistle to vibrate. This sends out a wave of sound that then bounces back and forth between the metal of the whistle and the auditory nerve of the dog's ears until the dog comes back to the man. b. The air causes the ball inside the whistle to bob around. The vibration causes a transverse air wave. As the transverse wave reaches the dog's ears, it becomes the sound that catches the attention of the dog by vibrating the nerve in its brain. c. The air causes the ball inside the whistle to go round and round. This sets up a vibration in the air that starts a sound wave. The sound wave travels through the air to the dog's ears, where it vibrates the auditory nerve and sends a signal to the dog's brain. d. The air causes the ball inside the whistle to move to the back of the whistle. The metal vibrates, causing a sound wave. The sound wave echoes until it causes the dog to lift its ears, so the dog can interpret the wave and determine it is a sound wave.
