Please explain how I can use math to solve the problem.
Sarah drops a penny from a height of 1250 feet. I will be using h for height and t for time in seconds, this will be modeled in the function h = -16t^2 + 1250. How will it take for Sarah’s penny to reach the ground?
How I would do it is get this "Sarah" to drop the penny again so I can just count how long it takes. But I have to use "Math" to solve it. How do I use "Math" to solve it?
Explain, PLEASE NO DIRECT ANSWER I WANT TO LEARN

First, we are going to have to multiply 16 ^2
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
With what?
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
Thats it we have to solve 16^2. You know how if noti will show you how.
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
its a step to solving the equation
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
I know that the ^2 is the square root right?

Correct
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
So do you 16 * 2 thats easy
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
K what did u get
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
Easy 32
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
ok do it with a negative -16

Um - 32
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
Lol correct
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
Hehe
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
Ok so now we have to do this -32t + 1250 now solve that
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
1218t right?

Why do we have t all the sudden?
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
the t has been there lol
h = -16t^2 + 1250.
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
and you are correct
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
I know that but why are we multiplying it with 1218t?
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
1218*

Ok
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
If he dont come ill help

Actually I messed up lol xD it is 32 seconds it takes to fall to cut it short
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
To cut it short?
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
well ik i messed up
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
Ok im kinda lots with that, but restart then?
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
lemme c if i can get some1 in here if not we will work together again lol sorry this turned into a long problem

Hey last idk if you could help or not
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
I still will need to show how I came up with the answer and I dont want it as a "direct answer"
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
Tru
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
Still need step by step explination
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
Ok well lets see first you mutiply -16 x 2 and you get -32t

OpenStudy (mrnebula):
Ya
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
So then, The total seconds it fallen was 32 seconds. Because when you mutiply 16*2 it will give u -32 and with the 1250 it was already part of the problem so the only thing needed to be done was mutiplication and solving 16*2
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
Oh ok
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
Good?
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
Ya so t is -32?

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
T IS 32 lol sry caps
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
So 32 per feet?
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
That is slow falling that cant be right
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
@satellite73 Is this correct

OpenStudy (mrnebula):
Well I guess with the wind pushing the penny up making the fall slower
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
if it is correct then all I have to do is times 32 by 1250 that will give me how much time it takes from top to bottom
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
THATS WHAT I FORGOT TO DO DA* IM DUM
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
Wait you didn't think to times 32 by 1250?
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
No because it you mutiplied it would be to high of a nimber so we have to divide the time

Ok... If you say so. Go on
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
So now how would u do it 32/1250 or 1250/32?
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
32/1250 would be way to small of a number but why would we 1250/32
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
Exactly and what would we get and sorry the site got closed down
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
I didn't notice anything and we would get 39.06

OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
Correct
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
So thats what it would be
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
Thats what t is?
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
Yes ik im right
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
K so now we times that by 1250 to find the total time from top to bottom

= 48828.125
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
OK
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
Now what do you think?
OpenStudy (mrnebula):
I think that t = 39. and the total time from top to bottom is 48828
OpenStudy (geekfromthefutur):
Awesome^-^
