Victoria, Elsa, Henry, Jack and Jane are all friends travelling in a 5-seater car with 3 friends in the back and 2 persons in the front. Each person occupies a seat. How many different ways can they sit if Victoria sits in the back and Henry drives?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

so 2 seats are occupied... so you are only having to seat 3 people. henry's seat is fixed and Victoria has a choice of 2 seats... in the back... so I'd expect it to be 3! x 2! =

OpenStudy (itiaax):

Hmmm, the answer could either be: A. 18 B. 114 C.120 D. 24

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Forget about Henry Victoria can sit in any of the 3 seats in back : 3C1 For each of these, the remaining 3 ppl can be arranged in 3! ways so total possible arrangements = 3C1*3!

OpenStudy (itiaax):

@ganeshie8 this totally makes sense! And I understand. Thank you !
