Suppose angle1 and angle2 don't add up to 180. Since anlge1 and angle2 are adjacent and are on the same line, they form linear pair angles. However this is not possible according to our assumption. So contradiction. That means our assumption must be wrong and angle1 and angle2 add up to 180.
