Im guessing it's 1? @sweetburger

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

First step to this is distributing the 2(m+1) meaning you multiply 2 by m and 1

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

what does 2(m+1)=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since m is 1, it would be 1+1, then 2 x 2=4?

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

alright so well break this up like this 2xm = 2m and 2x1= 2 so it becomes 2m+2

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

wait where did u think m=1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It was a guess

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

well we can solve for m so dont guess yet

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok lol

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

my bad typo

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

4m+2m+2 = 9m+5

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

try to get all of the m's by themselves by add and subtracting them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

next step is to divide right?

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

nope, no division yet

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

we still have to get all the m's together on one side of the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Subtract?

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

show me what you think you should do next and then i will correct you if you make a mistake

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Honestly, I got no clue :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's either add or subtract lol

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

alright ill show you 4m +2m +2 = 9m +5 so im going to add 4m+2m and get 6m+2=9m+5 now im going to subtract 6m from both sides of the equation leaving me with 2=3m+5. Now i am going to get m by itself by subtracting 5 from both sides of the equation giving us 3m=-3 so what does m=?

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

making sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Soo m= -1

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

ya

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sweet, thanks man!
