What is Pangaea? How did it contribute to the way life evolved on Earth?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pangaea was when all the continents were together before they were broke into modern continents

OpenStudy (andrewhouck):

well i know that but How did it contribute to the way life evolved on Earth?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Basically, before the continents broke apart, biological life was able to spread more freely. Once they separated, it became difficult for terrestrial life to cross the oceans and move to certain land masses.

thanks bro

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

pangaea was basically a mass continent where all the continents were combined to one big continent.. eventually it broke off into the continents we have now. If you think about it, since the continents broke apart, animals, plants and all organisms had to adapt and change to suit their environment. For example, some continents broke away from pangaea and went towards the north pole and some towards the south pole.. Basically it caused variation between species.

OpenStudy (andrewhouck):

thanks

OpenStudy (butterflydreamer):

you're welcome :)
