A right triangle ABC is shown below: A right triangle ABC with height AB labeled 3 units and base BC labeled 5 units is shown. The area of the triangle above will equal one half of a rectangle that is 5 units long and __ units wide. (Input only whole numbers, such as 8.)
|dw:1433360382494:dw| First find the area of the triangle
do you know how to find the missing side?
its 7.5 and you only need to find the base and height to find the area which is 7.5 right?
area = \[1\div2 (bh)\]
And thank you SOOO much for helping me out I have been bumping my question up forever
so 3*5 /2
7.5 correct now, to get the rectangle, multiply by 2
multiply 7.5 by 2 right?
yup
15
now we know area of a rectangle is base times height, so we have the base which is 5 and we know the area is 15 so we can make the equation 15 = 5x (what times 5 = 15)
3
so 3 would be the length for the missing side of the rectangle! Great work!
