That pretty much means that if you don't be mean to or just be calm with someone if you're having an argument then if you make a claim then the person you're having an argument with will respect that claim, making it stronger in a way. So if you are having an argument and you make a counterclaim, then be nice and calm so the guy (The on your having an argument with.) actually respects what you're saying
