It's always good to review definitions: A cladogram is a diagram used in cladistics which shows relations among organisms. The lines of a cladogram can be traced back to where they branch off. These branching off points represent a hypothetical ancestor which would have the combined traits of the lines above it. Although cladograms used to be based off morphological traits, they are now constructed from DNA and RNA sequencing data due to the discovery of how micro-evolutionary changes within a species can occur via mutations in these sequences. Therefore it it theorized that similarities in sequences can help determine how genetically related or unrelated two species are thus providing the information needed to construct a cladogram
